This site is dedicated to gardening and health. Topics which have an effect on these things will also be addressed, as well as issues relating to what we put into our bodies. While native plants and wildlife will mainly focus on those found in eastern Shasta County, the balance of the site should apply to most locations.
The more I learn about gardening, native plants and wildlife, the more I realize I need to learn. This site will hopefully provide information, be thought provoking and answer some of your questions.
My bride of 52 years is a retired physician. That’s her above, holding a cabbage from our garden. She is dedicated to health and fitness, and has a web site which can be accessed at drjomd.com. From time to time she will author valuable information, which will hopefully be of benefit to you. Here is a bit of her background taken from her web site:
“Dr. Jo (Bessie Jo Tillman, MD) changed her medical focus to include natural healing in the early 1980’s after graduating from the University of California Medical School, San Francisco in 1970, working 7 years as an emergency physician and 3 years in a walk-in care clinic.”
She has been a community education instructor for Shasta College, and a speaker at various community events with some radio and television appearances. She currently serves on the faculty of Shasta Bible College in Redding, California.”
As for me, I’m a retired attorney with an avid interest in gardening, and the effects of what goes into our bodies on our health. I’m a graduate of the University of California Master Gardener program and for several years was the Coordinator for the Shasta County Master Gardener Helpline. I still maintain the database for that program. Most of the information on gardening will be based on University of California research and recommendations. The Master Gardeners who volunteer at the Helpline are there to help you with your gardening questions. Contact information for Helpline offices in California are contained in the Master Gardener Information tab.
The question and answer section of the site primarily contains gardening information which has been approved by Leimone Waite. Leimone is an Agricultural Education graduate of the University of California at Davis with a Master’s degree in Horticulture for Cal Poly. She is the advisor for the Shasta County Master Gardeners and is very knowledgeable.
Applicable links will take the reader to content sites which expand on various topics. The children in the pictures are our grandchildren. We try to encourage them down the gardening path early in life.
I’m just getting started so please bear with me as the site develops. p.j. tillman
